Mike Detillier’s Top Players for the 2013 NFL Draft
*** (junior indication) 1. Jarvis Jones-Outside Linebacker Georgia 6-2, 245*** Making an impact along the same lines as Von Miller did at Texas A&M. Has been nicked up by an injury, but he has racked up 36 tackles, 9 ½ tackles for losses, 5 ½ QB. sacks and 15 QB. hurries in 2012. Has elite pass rush skills and closing speed to the quarterback. 2. Barkevious Mingo-Defensive End/Outside Linebacker LSU 6-4, 245*** Mingo reminds me a lot of Aldon Smith at Missouri and now one of the top young pass rushers in the NFL with the 49ers. Long, lean athlete with great speed and pass rush instincts. Has seen a lot of double-team action this season and recorded just modest numbers in 2012, 9 QB. hurries, 4 tackles for losses and 3 QB. sacks, but watch if he doesn’t blow up late in the year. 3. Matt Barkley-Quarterback USC 6-2, 228 Has a lot of Aaron Rogers-Green Bay Packers QB. passing traits in him. The California prep phenom is smart, accurate, a good decision maker and a natural leader. Has completed 65.7% of his passes for 1,773 yards, 22 TD’s and 6 pass interceptions through 7 games in 2012. 4. Star Lotulelei-Defensive Tackle Utah 6-3 ½, 330 Huge man in the middle and he is a superior run stuffer. Also does a good job tying up multiple blockers and getting a strong inside push. Has recorded 27 tackles, 7 tackles for losses, 2 QB. sacks and forced 2 fumbles, but stats don’t tell the whole story about his ability. He reminds me so much of New England Patriots NG. Vince Wilfork when he came out of Miami (Fla.). 5. Geno Smith-Quarterback West Virginia 6-3, 225 You have to love his size, strong arm, athletic skills and footwork and he is very accurate. Can put the ball in tight spots, but he is not one to force throws into heavy coverage. Has thrown for 2,417 yards, 26 touchdowns to just 2 pass interceptions and he has a very strong 74.3% completion rate. Has a higher rating than Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB. Josh Freeman when he came out of Kansas State. 6. Johnathan Hankins-Defensive Tackle Ohio State 6-3, 328*** Still not as good as he eventually will be. Has rare size, speed, quickness and strength ratio. Does a superb job clogging up the inside rushing lanes and he is also a good athlete on the chase down plays. Has a very similar skillset to that of Cleveland Browns DT. Ahtyba Rubin. 7. Keenan Allen-Wide Receiver California 6-3, 215*** Former star prep defensive back with excellent size, sure hands and he is outstanding running with the ball in the openfield. Does a nice job running routes and setting up the cornerback with moves. Has caught 56 passes for 676 yards, averaged 12.1 yards per catch and scored 5 TD’s after 8 games. 8. Manti Te’o-Inside Linebacker Notre Dame 6-2, 250 Smart, aggressive, has terrific football instincts in coming in to make the stop against the run and also dropping back into his pass coverage areas. Has racked up 69 tackles, 2 ½ tackles for losses, 3 pass break-ups and 4 pass interceptions in 2012. In the mold of New England Patriots standout ILB. Jerod Mayo. 9. Sam Montgomery-Defensive End LSU 6-5, 275*** Has put some 25 pounds of muscle on to his frame and really has turned up the intensity level and production feature over the past few weeks. Over the last 1 ½ years Montgomery has registered 22 ½ tackles for losses and 13 QB. sacks. Could turn out to be an NFL player along the lines of New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora. 10. Luke Joeckel-Offensive Tackle Texas A&M 6-5 ½, 315*** The best left tackle in college football. Had a strong game going head-up against LSU standout DE. Sam Montgomery. Very intense and aggressive run blocker and he is a tremendous pass protector. 11. Bjoern Werner-Defensive End Florida State 6-4, 260*** Former German exchange student who is still learning the finer points of playing the game, but he is immensely talented and he has very good football instincts. Developing into quite a pass rusher. Has registered 24 tackles, 11 ½ tackles for losses, 8 QB. sacks and had 5 pass break-ups in 2012. Looks a lot like a smaller version of former Wisconsin standout DL. J.J. Watt. 12. Chance Warmack-Offensive Guard Alabama 6-2 ¼, 325 Road grader at the highest level. Tremendous inline blocker who has a very quick and strong initial surge off the snap. One of the most dominant run blockers in the game of college football and also he has really upgraded his pass blocking techniques. 13. Robert Woods-Wide Receiver USC 6-1, 195*** Feared speed end who can just jet-away from defenders. Has big-play skills every time he touches the ball as a receiver and a return man. Has caught 44 passes for 492 yards and 9 scores in 2012. He looks like a bigger version of current Philadelphia Eagles WR. DeSean Jackson. 14. Taylor Lewan-Offensive Tackle Michigan 6-6 ½, 312*** One of the most underrated football players in college football. Lewan has great size, a huge wingspan and he is an aggressive run blocker. Not quite as good as Jake Long was when he came out of Michigan, but he is very good and he has really been a stellar pass protector in 2012. 15. Eric Reid-Free Safety LSU 6-1 ½, 215*** Reid is the best free safety in college football with great range and foot speed. Tremendous centerfield in pass coverage spots and he is also an aggressive and sure openfield tackler. Has recorded 50 tackles, had 4 pass break-ups and 2 pass interceptions in 2012. His father, Eric, Sr., was a former three-time All-American track hurdler and sprinter at LSU. 16. Dee Milliner-Cornerback Alabama 6-0 ½, 200*** Noted for his very physical man-to-man coverage skills. Is just glued to receivers and he has very good ball skills. Tough in run support and a sure openfield tackler. He was rated one of the top 2 prep cornerback prospects in the nation when he came out of Stanhope Elmore High School in Alabama and he has lived up to those lofty press clipping this season. Has recorded 12 pass break-ups and intercepted 2 passes in 2012. You had better stay away from throwing to his side of the field. 17. John Jenkins-Defensive Tackle Georgia 6-2 ½, 344 Massive interior player who is outstanding stuffing the run and blowing up the interior of an offensive line. Is quite active and quick for a big man. Has recorded 26 tackles and 6 QB. hurries in 2012. If his weight is down and motivation up, he is an immovable object in the middle. 18. Bennie Logan-Defensive Tackle LSU 6-2 ½, 288*** One of the most underrated players in the SEC. Active, can run the field like a much smaller player and he is a really good inside pass rusher. I thought he was a better player than Michael Brockers was last season at LSU. Has racked up 21 tackles, 5 tackles for losses and 2 QB. sacks for the aggressive Tiger defense in 2012. 19. Justin Hunter-Wide Receiver Tennessee 6-3 ¾, 206*** Hunter was a highly sought after prep WR. and he has lived up to those prep clippings. Was on the verge of a huge 2011 season before he suffered a torn ACL in his left knee. Has bounced back strong this season and caught 39 passes for 567 yards, averaged 14.5 yards per catch and has 4 scores in 2012. Justin has excellent size, sure hands and he catches the ball very well over the middle. He also has the speed to be a big-play threat on the longer throws. 20. David Amerson-Cornerback North Carolina State 6-1 ¾, 198*** Hasn’t’ played nearly as well as he did last season when he intercepted 13 passes and he has given up some big plays, but he has the size, arm length, catch-up speed and ball skills to develop into a very good match-up cornerback. Has picked off 4 passes and recorded 4 pass break-ups in 2012. He reminds me a lot of “Peanut” Tillman with the Chicago Bears. 21. Corey Lemonier-Defensive End Auburn 6-3, 244*** Premier pass rusher with great foot speed and explosive qualities coming off the edge. Could project to either defensive end or as a standup outside linebacker in the pros. The former Hialeah High School in Florida standout has recorded 22 tackles, 5 tackles for losses, 5 QB. sacks and 8 QB. hurries this season. 22. Kawann Short-Defensive Tackle Purdue 6-2 ¾, 317 Has really picked up the intensity level as a senior. Gets excellent penetration from the inside and he is a really good technician using his hands and strong arms. Has racked up 23 tackles, 9 tackles for losses and 4 QB. sacks in 2012. He is also a force on special teams and he has blocked 4 kicks this season. 23. Barrett Jones-Offensive Center/Guard Alabama 6-3 ½, 310 Tremendous football player who is versatile, technically strong and he has the speed and quickness to get to the second level to make blocks. Excellent pass protector. Has skills on the same level as Carolina Panthers All-Pro center Ryan Kalil when he came out of USC. 24. Damontre Moore-Defensive End Texas A&M 6-3 ¾, 265*** Played the “joker” outside linebacker/pass rush position last season, but he put on some weight on to his frame and he added the muscle needed to play the defensive end spot. I love his speed, quickness and tenacity to make a play. After 7 games Moore has recorded 62 tackles, 17 tackles for losses 9 ½ QB. sacks and 5 QB. hurries. Has a chance to zoom up the draft charts with strong workouts in the spring. 25. Johnthan Banks-Cornerback Mississippi State 6-0 ½, 184 Banks, a former standout prep QB. at East Webster High School in Mississippi has developed into one of the best cover men in college football. Johnthan has outstanding ball reaction skills and he plays the ball like a receiver in flight. Has excellent anticipation skills. Banks has been in on 33 tackles, 4 pass interceptions and 5 pass break-ups, and he is also a good punt returner and is averaging 9.8 yards per runback. 26. Tyler Wilson-Quarterback Arkansas 6-2, 222 Wilson, like the Arkansas team itself, got off to a rough start, but he is starting to really pick up the passing pace he started last season and he is a very accurate downfield passer. Tough guy standing in the pocket and he has good timing skills with his receivers. Has thrown for 1,957 yards, completed 60.5% of his passes with 14 TD’s and 5 interceptions in 2012. 27. Jake Matthews-Offensive Tackle Texas A&M 6-5, 310*** Jake is the son of former NFL Hall of Fame offensive lineman Bruce Matthews. Matthews has excellent size, he is strong at the point of attack and he gets a strong initial surge off the snap. Fine technician who does an excellent job keeping his QB. clean. Quality right tackle prospect. 28. D.J. Fluker-Offensive Tackle Alabama 6-5 ¾, 330*** Mammoth offensive tackle who moves extremely well for a big man. Has the ability to dominate as a run blocker when he plays low and gets under the pads of a D-Lineman. Knows how to use his hands well and he has the wingspan of a 747. Must watch his weight and get a better hold of his conditioning, but he reminds me of Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Donald Penn. 29. Xavier Rhodes-Cornerback Florida State 6-0 ½, 210*** I love big cornerbacks with great speed and a huge wingspan. I think he is a better cornerback prospect than Patrick Robinson, who the Saints took in Round One in 2010. Xavier excelled as an all-purpose RB./WR. at Norland High School in Florida, but he has really developed into a top-flight cover man at the next level. Has recorded 6 pass break-ups and 2 pass interceptions as a redshirt junior and teams aren’t throwing to his side of the field. 30. Marcus Lattimore-Halfback South Carolina 5-11 ½, 225*** Marcus was regarded as the best back in the nation as a prep senior and he has lived up to those very heady press clippings. Runs strong between the tackles and yet has the speed to hit the edge hard and break loose downfield. He also has sweet hands as a receiver coming out of the backfield. Has bounced back well from a torn ligament in his knee in 2011. 31. Shariff Floyd-Defensive Tackle Florida 6-3, 300*** Was regarded as the top defensive tackle prospect in the prep ranks as a senior at George Washington High School in Pennsylvania and he is playing a lot like that dominant player this season. Tremendous run stuffer and he does an excellent job pushing the pocket from the interior. Perfect 3-4 defensive end. Has registered 26 tackles, 5 tackles for losses, 3 QB. hurries and blocked one kick in 2012. 32. Khaseem Greene-Outside Linebacker Rutgers 6-1, 225 He doesn’t get the ink, but this former safety has turned into one of the best weakside linebacker prospects in this draft class. Greene has excellent football instincts, he runs the field like a defensive back and he is a very aggressive player heading to the ball. Was the 2011 Co-Big East Defensive Player of the Year. Has recorded a team high 67 tackles in 2012 and he has also registered 5 ½ tackles for losses, 3 ½ QB. sacks, forced 4 fumbles and picked off 2 passes. Very similar player to Atlanta Falcons OLB. Sean Weatherspoon when he came out of Missouri. 33. Alex Okafor-Defensive End Texas 6-4 ¾, 270 Smart, strong at the point of attack and he is relentless in trying to get to the ballcarrier. I love his instincts and trackdown skills. Has racked up 32 tackles, 10 tackles for losses, 7 ½ QB. sacks and 13 QB. hurries in 2012. Reminds me a lot of Saints defensive end Will Smith when he was at Ohio State. 34. Jesse Williams- Defensive End/Tackle Alabama 6-2, 330 35. C.J. Mosley-Inside Linebacker Alabama 6-2, 235*** 36. Tyler Eifert-Tight End Notre Dame 6-5, 255*** 37. Sylvester Williams-Defensive Tackle North Carolina 6-2 ¾, 323 38. Robert Lester-Free Safety Alabama 6-1 ½, 210 39. Alec Ogletree-Inside Linebacker Georgia 6-2 1/2 ,235*** 40. Dion Jordan-Defensive End Oregon 6-5 ½, 255 41. Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah-Defensive End/OLB. Brigham Young 6-5 ½, 272 42. Sheldon Richardson-Defensive Tackle Missouri 6-3, 298*** 43. DeAndre Hopkins-Wide Receiver Clemson 6-1, 205*** 44. Kenny Vaccaro-Free Safety Texas 6-1, 215 45. Nico Johnson-Outside Linebacker Alabama 6-2, 248 46. Le’Veon Bell-Halfback Michigan State 6-1 ¾, 250*** 47. Chase Thomas-Outside Linebacker Stanford 6-3 ½, 245 48. Eric Fisher-Offensive Tackle Central Michigan 6-7, 310 49. Tavon Austin-Wide Receiver West Virginia 5-9, 180 50. Cornellius Carradine-Defensive End Florida State 6-4 ½, 262 51. Shawn Williams-Strong Safety Georgia 6-1, 218 ** I do not have junior defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat from Texas on my listings since he sustained a ruptured right pectoral muscle and he is lost for the rest of the 2012 college football season. ** Note the fact with these ratings LSU and Alabama have 15 of the top 62 players that could be available for the 2013 NFL draft playing on November 3. That should not be a big shock. From 2007-2012 look who has put out the most 1st round picks.. 1. Alabama 11 2. USC 10 3. LSU 9 4. Florida 8 5.
